Observations/Questions:

  • Why did I choose this issue?
  • There is so much trash in our ocean affecting our marine animals
  • The color of the waters are turning dark/green and aren't as blue
  • How did all of this trash get into our beautiful ocean?
  • How are the animals in the ocean feeling with all of this pollution?

Answers:

  • I chose this issue because I feel that if we resolve this problem, then most of the other environmental problems will lessen. This is a very serious issue because we are literally killing our planet every single day. Recycling and ocean clean ups are things we can do to help but there is so much more trash that won't just go away by doing so.
  • The main source of all the trash and pollution in the ocean is us, humans. We are the only ones polluting our ocean. We pollute our planet by oil spills, agriculture chemicals, plastic, deep-sea mining, intentional discharge of chemicals, garbage, and noise pollution. Some people don't know how badly littering will damage our earth, so they keep doing it. But, many people do know that littering is a bad thing but they do it anyway because they simply just "don't care" because it isn't directly affecting them unless they get caught and they get a fine for littering which goes from $300 to $1,000, or they can also be sentenced for imprisonment or require community service up to one year. If only everyone knew what it would be like to have your home full of toxic waste and garbage then no one would be littering.

  • The animals in the ocean are badly affected by all the trash and toxins. They sometimes think that the plastic is food so they eat it but they die sooner than normal because they didn't know that it is poison to them. The animals are also getting caught in all the nets and the plastic bottle rings floating around in the ocean. So it is causing them to choke and/or die because it restricts them from moving and they cannot get it off themselves.
